Henry Cavill’s appearance in the big new spy movie Argylle seems to have significantly decreased his chances of playing James Bond in the future. Previously auditioning to play Bond in the movie Casino Royale, Cavill was rejected despite his prolific performance due to his young appearance.
And now, years later, when Henry Cavill became one of the many fan-favorite actors out of the running for James Bond, he came up with Argylle. The film’s preview pretty much confirmed that the character Agent Argylle is a parody of Bond. This, not only reduced his chances of being a part of the James Bond franchise but also notably served as his sweet revenge.

Henry Cavill’s Revenge On The James Bond Franchise
Following the exit of Daniel Craig from the James Bond franchise, Henry Cavill became the fan-favorite actor running for the role of 007. But, it’s not the first time he got associated with the renowned franchise. Apparently, years back when Casino Royale was in the making, Cavill auditioned for the titular spy character.
However, due to his young appearance, the actor was rejected from the franchise. And now years later Henry Cavill appears to be preparing for revenge on the Bond films with his big new spy movie Argylle. With the preview of the movie confirming that the character Agent Argylle is a parody of James Bond, there’s no denying that Cavill took the opportunity to poke fun at the role, and got away.
According to ScreenRant, Cavill’s spy character wears suits, drinks martinis, and has an affinity for charming pretty women, just like James Bond, but in a more hilarious way. Using a blend of humor and action to satirize the James Bond franchise, Henry Cavill’s Argylle, openly ridiculed the archetype of the perfect spy.
Henry Cavill Playing James Bond is Highly Unlikely
Proving that revenge is best served cold, Henry Cavill swiped his potential opportunities to play the role of James Bond, under the rug. While his parody thriller is not a bad thing, the film certainly put the nail in the coffin and reduced Cavill’s chances of playing the famous British spy after all. Perhaps, the actor isn’t bothered about losing the opportunity once more.
Anyway before taking his role in Argylle, Henry Cavill had a low chance of playing James Bond, due to two reasons. Firstly, because the actor has previously worked in massively popular spy movies like The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. Further, he played the role of August Walker in the popular spy franchise, Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
The second reason is Henry Cavill’s association with too many prominent roles and franchises. Taking on the role of the popular DC Comics character Superman, playing Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, and playing the famous detective Sherlock Holmes in the Enola Holmes movies, Cavill has too many franchises under his belt. Thus, losing James Bond doesn’t appear to be a big deal for the actor.
Argylle is set to hit the theatres on 2 February 2024.
