Neymar Shares Post-Surgery Update: Now it’s Time to Focus on Recovery

The striker for Al-Hilal and the Brazilian national team shared a positive photo on his social media account. Neymar is expected to be released from the hospital by Saturday and will begin with his physiotherapy sessions. The athlete underwent surgery yesterday to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, which he suffered during Brazil’s loss to Uruguay on October 17th. Despite the setback, Neymar remains upbeat and optimistic about his recovery.

The footballer wrote, “Everything went well. Thank you for the messages and now it’s all about focusing on recovery.”
The surgery was carried out on Thursday morning, after Neymar was admitted to a hospital in Belo Horizonte on Wednesday. He is expected to be discharged by Saturday. The procedure was deemed a success by Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar, who led the surgery and is the national team doctor as well as the medical director for Atlético-MG. Juan David Peña, the medical director for Al-Hilal, also accompanied Lasmar during the operation.
Neymar Jr., who plays for Al-Hilal and the Brazilian national team, suffered a complex injury to his left knee during a match against Uruguay on October 17. On Thursday, he underwent surgery to address the injury, including the reconstruction of his anterior cruciate ligament and repair of both meniscus injuries. The surgery was successful.

In an interview, Rodrigo Lasmar, who is the physician of the Brazilian national football team, discusses Neymar’s recent surgery. Lasmar previously performed surgery on Neymar’s right foot in 2018 to repair a fracture. Earlier this year, Lasmar was part of a team of three medical professionals who operated on Neymar’s ankle ligaments after he sustained an injury.

Neymar has recently undergone surgery, and the Al-Hilal club had plans to perform it in Paris. However, Neymar expressed his desire to be operated by Lasmar, who was hired by the Saudi club to carry out the procedure. The expected recovery time is between six to eight months. The injury occurred during a match in Montevideo when Neymar was involved in a ball dispute with no contact from the opponent. He returned to Brazil with the delegation and decided to stay in the country to wait for the surgery. Despite this setback, Neymar remains optimistic and has posted a positive message on social media following the operation.

Neymar, who was signed as the main reinforcement for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia this season, has only played five matches for the club, scoring one goal in his last game before joining the Brazilian national team for the Eliminatory rounds of the Asian Champions League. Unfortunately, this is Neymar’s second serious injury of 2023. He sustained an ankle injury while playing for Paris Saint-Germain in February and spent five months recovering. Over the course of the year, he has only played in 17 official games for both club and country.
