Mbappe becomes club owner at age 25

Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe is set to become the majority owner of a professional football club at the age of 25 after reaching an agreement with Caen.

Following rumours in recent weeks, Le Parisien reported that Mbappe would pay less than €20 million to buy most of the shares in Caen. Shareholder Pierre-Antoine Capton would hold the remaining shares, worth €5 million.

Mbappe almost joined Caen in 2013 but the deal collapsed after the club was relegated from Ligue 1. Instead, Mbappe joined Monaco and the rest is history. The 25-year-old spent time in Monaco’s youth system before joining PSG in 2017, initially on loan.

There is also information that the reason why Mbappe’s move to Caen fell through was because the then president of Caen did not guarantee the French international a starting position at the age of 16 as his parents had requested, while Monaco were willing to do so. Therefore, despite being very close to signing a contract with Caen, Mbappe went to Monaco.

Mbappe made his Real Madrid debut at the Bernabeu not long ago . The 25-year-old has now started training with the team and is expected to make his debut for Los Blancos in the European Super Cup against Atalanta next month.

For now, Mbappe will try to make an impact at Caen, which currently plays in Ligue 2, France’s second tier. In the longer term, Mbappe could even play for his own club, as Didier Drogba did for Phoenix Rising in the US in 2017.
