According to Reuters news agency, Argentine police said they were called to the hotel in the Palermo neighborhood after receiving reports of an “aggressive man who may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol”.
The hotel manager said he heard a loud noise at the back of the venue. When police arrived, they found Liam Payne falling from a balcony. Paramedics confirmed the singer was dead.

Alberto Crescenti, director of emergency medical services, explained to Argentina’s Todo Noticias television channel that Payne fell from a height of 13-14 meters and “suffered serious injuries that led to immediate death.”
“We got there in time to try to resuscitate him, but there was nothing more we could do,” Crescenti said, adding that authorities were investigating the circumstances surrounding Payne’s death and were conducting an autopsy.
“I’m in shock right now. Liam was always so good to me,” American singer Charlie Puth shared on Instagram. “He was one of the first big artists I worked with. I can’t believe he’s gone.”
American music channel MTV, streaming service Spotify and the British music awards BRIT all expressed their grief on social media, sending condolences to the singer’s family and loved ones.
Payne had a son named Bear with British television presenter and Girls Aloud singer Cheryl in 2017.
Witnesses said the incident happened at around 5pm local time. The pop star had been acting erratically in the hotel lobby earlier.
According to an audio recording of the incident obtained by the Buenos Aires Security Department, police received a call from hotel staff asking for urgent help with a drunk guest.
“When he woke up, he was destroying the entire room and we need you to send someone,” the employee said, adding that the guest’s life was in danger because the hotel room had a balcony.
Payne, who has a 7-year-old son named Bear with his ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole, was recently spotted in Argentina with his new girlfriend Kate Cassidy on September 30. The pair posted several posts together on social media, showing them enjoying their vacation.
On October 2, the couple even attended a concert by Niall Horan, former member of One Direction, at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires.
Liam Payne has just celebrated his 31st birthday. He was born in Wolverhampton, West Midlands and is the youngest of three children. He is a former student of Wolverhampton City College.
Payne is best known as a member of the popular British boy band One Direction. The group, consisting of Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Horan, first formed in 2010 after the UK version of the reality television show The X Factor .

One Direction disbanded in 2015. Payne then released his debut solo album in 2019, titled LP1 . In May 2023, the singer announced that he was working on a new album that he was “really excited about” and planning a tour.
He has been open about his past struggles with substance abuse and his treatment.
The tour was scheduled to kick off in South America in September of that year, but Payne had to postpone it due to a kidney infection.
