Actress Denise Welch, mother of singer Matty Healy, has attracted attention after saying she was relieved her son did not marry Taylor Swift.
“Obviously I’m not allowed to talk about it, but I’m glad I’m not her mother-in-law,” Welch said, drawing gasps from the studio audience. “It’s not that I don’t like her, it’s just… it’s complicated,” she explained.
The 67-year-old Celebrity Big Brother UK star then paused and added: “She was like, ‘You’re not allowed to say anything,’ and she made a whole album about it.”

However, Ms Welch insisted that her son – the frontman of The 1975 – has taken the breakup positively and is about to marry a wonderful girl. “Matty is very happy with his beautiful fiancée Gabriella. She is absolutely amazing,” she said, referring to model Gabbriette Bechtel. “So, we have moved on.”
Matty Healy, 36, and Taylor Swift, 35, dated briefly from May to June 2023, shortly after the Cruel Summer singer split from actor Joe Alwyn. During their relationship, the pair were often seen together, with Healy even cheering on Swift on her sold-out Eras Tour .

After their split, a source told Entertainment Tonight that the reason was due to scheduling conflicts and differences between the two.
When Taylor Swift released her album The Tortured Poets Department in April 2024, it was widely rumored that songs such as Guilty As Sin , Down Bad , Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus , The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived and I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) were inspired by Healy.
Taylor has been dating football star Travis Kelce since the summer of 2023. Meanwhile, Matty Healy proposed to model Gabbriette Bechtel in June 2024.
