Diddy’s ‘trick’
,
During the jury selection session in New York on May 9, Diddy’s lawyer Marc Agnifilo revealed the plan to portray the relationship between his client and his ex-girlfriend Ventura as “violent on both sides.” With this strategy, his side hopes to smear Ventura’s reputation and undermine her credibility before she testifies for the prosecution in the upcoming trial on May 12.
“I think we’ll call it domestic violence,” Agnifilo said in court. Federal Judge Arun Subramanian, who presided over jury selection and pretrial hearings, responded that he will make a decision early next week on whether to allow domestic violence-related charges to be brought at trial.

Diddy’s legal troubles began in November 2023, when Ventura, who was romantically involved with the rapper from 2007 to 2018, filed a lawsuit accusing him of raping and physically abusing her during their relationship. Diddy immediately denied the allegations and settled the lawsuit in less than 24 hours. However, things became more public when a video of him brutally attacking Ventura at a hotel in 2016 was leaked online.

hitmaker later issued a public apology, calling it the “darkest moment” of his life. “The behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for what I did. I am disgusted with myself,” Diddy commented.
In September 2024, the rapper was arrested on federal charges including criminal organization, sex trafficking, and human trafficking for prostitution. Police raided Diddy’s California and Florida homes, seizing more than 1,000 bottles of lubricant and three AR-15s. The hip-hop mogul is currently being held at the Metropolitan Federal Detention Center in Brooklyn after being denied bail.
Just days before the first hearing on May 5, it was reported that Diddy had rejected a plea deal offered by the prosecution. However, the specific details of the deal were not disclosed in court. The rapper later maintained his innocence and denied all charges.
According to US media, if convicted, Diddy could face life in prison. His lawyers said they would argue that his client’s lifestyle was merely “swinging” – a form of consensual polygamy – and should not be considered a crime as described by journalists.
