Zendaya walked away with her first Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy in 2020 for her work in Euphoria’s first season.

The edgy teen drama, which premiered on HBO in June 2019, follows Rue (Zendaya) and other students at her high school as ‘they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, 𝑠e𝑥, trauma and social media.’

Zendaya’s character Rue enters in and out of an addiction to opiates and alcohol as a toxic means of coping with devastating loss of her father to cancer years prior.

Rue’s cycle of addiction is ramped up in Euphoria’s critically-acclaimed second seasons, which kicked off in January and wrapped by end of February 2022.

The 2022 Emmy Awards returned to the Microsoft Theater on September 12, after a two-year absence during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that saw the ceremony moved to the Crypto.com Arena in 2020 and the Event Deck at L.A. Live in 2021.

Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson will be taking over hosting duties for the first time, and he promised that controversies such as Will Smith’s shocking slap of Chris Rock at the Academy Awards ‘won’t happen again’ under his watch.

‘Even if I am roasting [someone], it shouldn’t come across as any sort of malice,’ he told the Associated Press.
